Macy's at Lenox holds annual Lighting of the Great Tree ceremony
In Atlanta you know the holidays have officially
started when Macy’s lights up their wondrous tree. In fact, the ceremony of the
Lighting of the Great Tree is quite a big occasion. Previously, this event is held on Thanksgiving
night and followed up with great shopping.
However, this year Macy’s held the event at the Lenox Square location on Sunday, November 22, 2015. In true Macy’s style the night was super fabulous, with top entertainment, great singing, local celebrities, and some of the crowd even had gift bags to take home in remembrance of Macy’s Lighting of the Great Tree.

In true Macy’s style the night was super fabulous, with top entertainment, great singing, local celebrities, and some of the crowd even had gift bags to take home in remembrance of Macy’s Lighting of the Great Tree.
This marks the 68th annual event of the
Lighting of the Great Tree and with the fireworks, choirs, great performances,
holiday music, extra security, and celebrities the night goes down as a
spectacular start to the holiday season. There were thousands of people who
braved the cold Georgia night to witness the spectacular event. Of course there
was an appearance by Santa and a few local celebrities…yet, the biggest star of
the night is the decked out humongous tree on top of Lenox Square.
While it is hard to out sparkle a gigantic tree, the mayor
of Atlanta, Kasim Reed gleamed his southern charm as he welcomed the crowd and
to witness the festivities. Additionally, Channel
2’s news anchors Jovita Moore and Craig Lucie hosted the event and introduced performances
by contemporary Christian music group MercyMe, and Jordin Sparks and Danny
Gokey, both of "American Idol" fame.
There was also a noticeable amount of extra security
around to make sure everyone was safe and protected. By the time the fireworks
were started you barely noticed the bitter cold. It was warming to see all the happy
smiles and faces that were delighted by the excitement of the light show. Make
sure to stop at Macy’s by Lenox and get a peek of the tree while you do your
Christmas shopping this year.
