Have you ever won tickets to a PETA event?
Have you ever won tickets to a PETA event? When you are sitting in traffic and you
hear the radio announcer ask you to call in to win tickets – you never think you
might actually have a chance to win those tickets. Well, it just so happens I
called into WRFG, a local Indie Format station in Atlanta, Georgia, during the evening drive home and was pleasantly
surprised that I was the correct caller and was notified I won two tickets. Tickets to
what? Well, the tickets were to a PETA event happening in Atlanta that weekend
and the announcer who gave me the great news was Melody Paris who is known for
being passionate about animal rights.
Learning about PETA- I also have a passion for learning about new things and this
certainly seemed liked a great time to find out more about what types of events
are hosted by PETA. Some fans of the HBO Show, Sex and the City, only think of
PETA in the infamous scene when the character Samantha wore a white fur to New
York Fashion Week and alleged members of PETA hurled red pain on that fur. They
shouted “Fur is Murder!” Well, as much as I love the characters of Sex and the
City I am sure there is so much more to PETA.

On Saturday afternoon, March 18, 2017 at the Conference
Center at Atlanta Metropolitan State College I was excited to mark this as my
first time attending a PETA event. At
the registration desk I was informed that this event would feature the President
of PETA speaking along with other animal right's advocates. Another great thing about this event is that you were greeted with a goodie bag. Yes, a nice big black bag filled with coupons, discounts, and sample size goodies! I am already starting to feel like this is going to be a super experience because I love free goodies! Also, I was really delighted to learn of the welcoming food fair and marketplace they set up as a reception.
Vegan Food Fair- By afternoon, this unique marketplace was in full swing. While I have been to
many food fairs and markets before this was definitely my first vegan only fair. The vegan only aspect
makes this particular marketplace so unique because the vendors celebrated the
versatility of meat-less food. Surprising treats from carrot fries to pineapple
breakfast bars were being given out as samples from the different exhibitors. My daughter, who was my plus one, really enjoyed the Elderberry Juice from one of the vendors.
Sevananda- Ifini Sheppard, an Outreach Coordinator at Sevananda, showed off her outstanding table during the exhibit. She explained how Sevananda is a natural foods market in Atlanta. Mrs. Sheppard ecstatically remarked, " You are what you eat!" This statement is certainly something that led many to choose the vegan lifestyle.
Enjoying the Vegan Lifestyle- Actually,
right now this is the most exciting time to have the vegan lifestyle. The excitement comes because technology has intertwined with creativity to make the most enterprising dishes. The creativity of
what people do with tofu and vegetables now make this culinary exploration
quite a delicious road. There was even a local music artist performing a
vegan rap song. After tasting all the different treats, hearing the inspirational talk, and finding out about
alternative ways to find nutritious ways to eat without meat I was
super excited. This event hosted by PETA was awesome. I encourage everyone to
become more open minded about food choices and learning of different ways to
eat. Below are pictures from the event. Thanks to WRFG 89.3 in Atlanta and Melody Paris for the
unforgettable opportunity.
