Who are the invisible class? What does it mean to give access to opportunity? What does it mean to give access to empowering others? These are some of the topics explored during the Hope Global Forum 2017.  The Hope Global Forum was held in Atlanta, Georgia from April 10-12th. This forum is just one of many events carefully designed that require action in various communities. The forum is actually founded by Operation HOPE, which is the nation’s first financial services network that is non profit and expressly for underserved communities.

Some communities in Atlanta, Georgia are a prime example of what is referred to as underserved. According to Annie E. Casey Foundation, the unemployment rate for African Americans is 22 percent, which is exceedingly more than the overall percentage in Atlanta of 13 percent Unemployment for African Americans in Atlanta, Georgia .

Job creation for African Americans is certainly one of the ways to spotlight an invisible class. John Hope Bryant, the culminating speaker most assuredly has a plan for creating more jobs and other ways to eradicate invisible representation for certain classes. This untraditional leader has dedicated a major part of his career to teaching the language of money. He attempts to bring financial dignity and financial literacy to those who may have never heard such terms before. Bryant is a leader who has made remarkable strides in the financial industry. Yet, before this powerhouse takes the stage there are so many other revolutionary leaders set to take the podium.  The next couple of days would include talks from leaders at PayPal, MasterCard Worldwide, Thrive Global, and even the WNBA. Emblazing talk about female empowerment, entrepreneurship, and global banking are just some of the whirlwind of subject matters up for discussion. The diversity of subjects awesomely represented the diversity of leadership on hand.

The Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, Georgia served as the perfect place to showcase this noticeable diversity. The ballroom was standing room only at the start of the Opening Reception for the Annual Meeting. The opening kicked off in true impactful fashion with Atlanta City Council President, Ceasar Mitchell welcoming the audience and applauding the continuing efforts of the forum to have inclusive economics.  Mitchell noted the 25 years of involvement from the forum. Next, he introduced a formidable line up of speakers with Ambassador Andrew Young, News One Now Host, Roland Martin, and CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Ariel Investments John W. Rogers, it was definitely a sign that this forum was going to be one that introduced new terminology and leaders that are on trend.

Understanding new and emerging trends is certainly a strategy to have for the new economy and the theme for the forum highlighted this trend. This year’s theme is “Uplifting the Invisible Class”, and with Idea Labs and Straight Talk Sessions it is obvious this forum is boldly unlike any other meeting one has ever attended. The emphasis is on looking at the world globally through a different type of lens and acknowledging groups of people financially that are often overlooked. This Invisible Class is typically a class of people that are not financially astute and have no guidance on their finances.

The forum sets to raise financial awareness and create more entrepreneurs and home owners. The goal is to spotlight those that were deemed invisible and ultimately create representation for this class. These industry leaders make time to try and find ways to empower dynamic groups and eliminate invisibility in certain classes.
